Professional piercers use blade needles (hollow needles) that make a small cut that is shaped to fit your desired jewelry. Although they are hollow, the needle does not remove any skin. “Piercing” guns cause bluntforce trauma by using a dull piece of jewelry to forcefully push it through the desired area. It can cause injury and tissue damage that can lead to significantly more pain, swelling, and possibly more scarring.

Irritation bumps (hypertrophic scarring) look like a raised, flesh-colored or pinkish bump, that develops around the site of the piercing. They are most often caused by excess moisture, movement, friction, bumping, or sleeping on the piercing. Irritation bumps go away with safe & proper aftercare. Please contact us at piercing@fuzejewelry.com to speak to a piercing professional.

Irritation bumps are often confused with keloids. Keloids are dense, tissue build-up. They are not fluid filled and are often larger than the common irritation bump. They are largely genetic and there is no home treatment to help resolve this issue. If keloids are common in your family, let your piercing professional know prior to receiving a piercing. If you think you have a keloid, contact a healthcare professional to seek further treatment.

If you deal with irritation from metals or certain jewelry, please let your piercing professional know prior to receiving a piercing. At Fuze Jewelry, we use high-quality titanium or solid gold with mill certificates available to see the exact materials used in your piercing. Our jewelry is nickel and cadmium free. If you have any concerns please feel free to contact us at piercing@fuzejewelry.com

We offer a variety of ear piercings and nostril piercings. Including lobe, helix, flat, forward helix, and tragus piercings.

Piercings made initially with a ring-style jewelry often deal with prolonged healing times and various movement-based irritation bumps. Due to the swelling of an initial piercing, the ring will have to be larger to accommodate.

After your piercing, you will be given an aftercare card as well as a conversation about the minimum healing time for your specific piercing. You should wait until your piercing is fully healed and matured before changing jewelry.

Initial piercings are done with a slightly longer bar to allow for any swelling made from the procedure. Once the swelling is reduced, the excess length is easier to be snagged or caught. The piercing angle may change and cause prolonged healing if it is not shortened and replaced with a sterile, properly fitted post. Please make an appointment or visit Fuze to have a downsize fitting at the time recommended by your piercer.

It is important to not touch, spin, move, or pick at your piercing & jewelry. Sleeping on your fresh piercing can lengthen your healing process and can cause irritation bumps. These movements can injure your fresh piercing.

With all wound healing, it is important to 1. irrigate, 2. clean, 3. dry your piercing.

  • Irrigation is best done at the last step of your shower with a warm 30 second rinse to ensure there are no traces of soaps or other irritants. This step also helps soften and loosen piercing build-up to make it easier for removal.
  • To dry your piercing use a disposable product like clean gauze or cotton swabs to gently remove build-up. Cloth towels can snag on jewelry & harbor bacteria.
  • Cleaning your piercing using a sterile saline wound wash can help treat healing issues associated with new piercings. It is important to remember to not move or rotate your piercing while healing.

At Fuze, we prioritize the safety and health of all piercings performed. We ensure this by using high-quality materials and sterile jewelry. High-quality jewelry should have verifiable materials and have no nicks or scratches that could possibly harbor bacteria.

  • Threadless or “Press-Fit” jewelry uses a pin that is inserted into the base or post of the jewelry backing. The jewelry end has a strong titanium pin that is slightly-bent to create tension that secures the pieces together. The only way to remove this style of jewelry is to pull firmly at both ends of the jewelry to separate.
  • The benefit of using threadless jewelry is that all of the tops sold at Fuze are interchangeable and can be used in all piercings with the proper backing.
  • During pregnancy the body’s immune system goes through various changes that have an adverse effect on healing a piercing. If an infection occurs, the pregnancy or fetus would be negatively affected.
  • Healed piercings also have a tendency to act up as the body’s immune system is compromised and the swelling associated with pregnancy may require a different size jewelry be used to accommodate any changes.
